This time to the course organizer of one of my first year courses. It's pretty self-explanatory.



Dear Mrs. Harvey,

I'm sure you will agree that the university takes plagiarism very seriously. However, I just noticed that the information on page 37 of the Medical Biology 1 course guide starting "A WHR of 0.7 for women..." and ending "testicular cancers" is directly copied from the relevant wikipedia page ([link] and uncited.

I don't mean this to be overly nit-picky, but shouldn't the same standard apply to the course organizers as to the students? Shouldn't the course book set a good example?

I just received a nice email from ScotRail, informing me about a strike. How kind! But the text was a little confusing. I figure a big comapny like them should be able to fix this problem, so I've written them a 'letter to the Times' style email.

To whom it may concern,
While I appreciate your recent email to inform of strike action, I felt that the first paragraph (quoted below) was very unclear, and as a result I have no idea what the strike is about:

"As you may be aware, the RMT trade union has voted to strike over the introduction of driver door operated trains with ticket examiners on the new Glasgow to Edinburgh via Airdrie to Bathgate route. "

The part I am particularly confused by is "driver door operated trains." Are the trains operated by their drivers' doors? Are the doors on the trains operated by the drivers? Do the trains, which are operated by the drivers, consist only of doors? Perhaps a hyphen would allay confusion.

For a similar problem, consider the phrase "man eating shark." This could mean "man-eating shark" (a shark which eats people) or "man eating shark" (a man is currently in the process of consuming the cartilaginous fish).

I am sorry that you felt that our explanation about the strike action was unclear. The strike has been brought about due to the introduction of some services where train doors will be operated by the drivers, rather than ticket examiners. The ticket examiners have raised a safety issue, arising from having no control of the door operation themselves.

I hope that this clears up any confusion.

My last day of school ever began with a full year assembly and gig with my band before progressing to Lydiard Park for a barbecue and general muck-around. I managed to stick around for enough time to nick a burger I'd technically paid for, and have a few brews, game of American Football, before setting off on the long walk back to my house. Luckily, my head of year was passing and gave me a lift half the way. ^^ Yay!
After I got home, finished packing and said bye to the family, I took the bus to the station. My train was almost half an hour late due to 'a suspected fatality'. Urgh.
That made me a bit late into Paddington, and I had to buy a new home-trip ticket as I'd booked it for the wrong time on the Sunday. After much drama and many phonecalls to ~SillyxSora (and one to KT)we managed to be on the same platform and got onto the right trains to get to the PTI -just- before the DLR closed. But my sword got broken.
Saw :davpapercutperfect: briefly, drink in hand, before heading up to ditch stuff. To finish off the evening, we all went down to the bar for drinkies and meeting of people. I met, in no particular order, ~evilsnowball7, !Joe-D-Luffy, =Emi-zone, ~Silzer, ~meproct and so many more! (sorry if I forgot anyone by name or DA account!)

The next day, I cosplayed Susan from the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett. Got a fair few squees from dedicated fans, and spent the day trailing around after the excellent FFIX group, filming their practice for the masquerade and general cabbage patch antics. While we were waiting for the FFIX group to reassemble at some point during the day, we got chatting to the human bomb from the steampunk group. He was really nice, just randomly started having a conversation with us. People like that -make- expo for me.

That evening, we ordered an embarrassment of pizza. We had about one each, by the end of it... We ended up pawning it off on randoms, I think!

Sunday I put on Rena from .hack//legend of the twilight, and hung around with Sora as my Shugo. So many pictures were taken! I felt popular, it was nice. We ate noodles, and I taught KT how to use chopsticks before going to the masquerade. While we were in the queue, we got chatting to the Saint Saiya (sp?)/Spamalot group. One guy in particular was really friendly and we had a good chat. It only occurred to me yesterday that not only was it the same guy both days, that he was in Uber-Nerd. *facepalm* I have -seen- those costumes before, WHY didn't I recognise them?!

I took a bus and a walk and confusing people's directions and tube trains to Paddington to catch my train at 10 o'clock at night that evening, and sat in the first class lounge for a bit before my train... that extra 4 quid was worth it.

I have no good quotes to say that everyone else hasn't, but definitely the highlights of the weekend were seeing Sora, Cabbage in a dress, JOE IT'S JOE a million times, getting to know Bloo a bit better, meeting people and the Benny Hill - esque videos made in the corridor. Oh, and reading French in the lift corridor!

At the moment I'm planning cosplays for May Expo.
I'll be doing Rena from .hack//Twilight with ~SillyxSora for sure, and then for the other day I think Susan Sto Helit, because that's not too hard to make and some people might recognise me. Heh heh.

We're are also talking of a cosplay theme park meet-up... more to follow.

I haven't drawn anything in yonks. I dunno what to draw. If you have a good picture of yourself, I can do a digital painting (see my gallery for the two examples). I'll have... three slots, I think. So first three to say 'Me!' and reference a llama in their comments get art. If that many people even respond, lol.

I went uber-shopping on Tuesday. I spent agesssssss and bought lots of lovely tops and underwear and tights and a very very very short skirt.

Yesterday I went to see James Bond, and it was ok. Not great, but it was nice to meet up with friends.

I've finally met someone, after being single for soooooo long, and trying to fend off an old crush. So I'm much happier.

I was in Leeds for 9 days. But I didn't have any internet before I left. That's what the journal was about.


So I'm starting a webcomic. To be hosted here on my DA. It's going to be about 4 people who live in a country ruled by the military, and they start a rebellion. It's about how they decide to do it, why they do it...

The weather's got me down, I think. I'm finding it hard to be my usual, bouyant, ridiculous self. I need some cheering up.

Though, on a lighter note, I've gotten involved in the year 9 production of 'Wootton Bassett School Musical', which includes some HSM songs... I'm helping the 'Ryan' character with his singing. Never really liked HSM before, still haven't seen it, but the songs are catchy...

I need to sketch today, but I have chores, and I can't find my graphics tablet pen. I guess I'll have to do it on paper. It'll be weird.

Haha, just got back. All my science teachers were like 'lovelovelove' and my French teacher was like, 'Yeah you need to do more work. You failed this practice paper'.

Well, no, but I did really badly 'cos I didn't do the whole essay question. Which was silly.

And then I cried. Mwahaha. Either I'm a woos or a perfectionist, and I don't know which is worse.

It's good to vent, lol.


On a lighter note, I have awesome hair today. Awesome hair is awesome. And I found my sunglasses. So what, material things make me happy.
